Scarborough Fair是达斯汀·霍夫曼主演的电影《毕业生》中的两首主题曲之一（另外一首是sound of silence，同是该男声双人合唱组合的经典），歌词和电影情节遥相呼应，如诗般反映了影片中男主人公的内心世界。这首歌分成两部分：主旋律的 Scarbourough Fair和伴唱的Canticle。
“Scarbourough Fair/Canticle”不但唯美，而且发人深省，只是一般的歌迷可能多半都只听到主歌“Scarbourough Fair”，这是根据英国的一首传统民谣改编的，描述一个前往远方出征的年轻士兵，担心自己无法生还，于是托付友人转告家乡的女友，万一他无法活著回来，请她替自己料理后事，永远记得他的爱，就像那香味芬芳的花草一样。而在这首歌进行的同时，赛门另外谱写的一首“Canticle”副歌，描述著战场上军人的无奈心声，和前者合为一体，搭配得天衣无缝。甚至我们可以说，“躲在背后”的这首“Canticle”，才是赛门编写这首歌曲的真正精神所在。
从上述这首歌曲，我们可以察觉赛门与葛芬科对时事的看法，当时越战正如火如荼的进行著，美国朝野开始出现了反战的声音，而他们可以说为当时的美国知识青年说出了心里的想法。
Scarborough是英国东部的一个小镇，每年8月15日起有一个近两个月的商业集会，后由于当地地面下沉而不再进行。目前的Scarborough只是一个宁静的小镇。加拿大多伦多市也有一个地区以Scarborough命名。
parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme这四种药用植物在中世纪的英国都有象征意义，和今天的恋人手中的红玫瑰差不多。
其中，parsley 洋芫荽（香菜）被中世纪的医生用作镇痛药物，也用于减缓精神上的痛苦；sage即鼠尾草，象征着力量；rosemary迷迭香，象征着忠诚、爱情和永恒的记忆，古希腊的恋人们用以表达自己的爱慕；thyme即百里香，中世纪的骑士们赴战场作战，常把thyme挂在自己的盔甲上，因此thyme常常象征着勇气。
